About the Author
HAROLD A. WITTCOFF is Scientific Adviser to Chem Systems and was vice president of Corporate Research at General Mills, Inc. He has taught industrial chemistry in 27 countries and to representatives of 350 companies. He has taught industrial organic chemistry at the University of Minnesota, and has authored or coauthored more than 130 patents and 60 technical publications.

BRYAN G. REUBEN is Professor of Chemical Technology at South Bank University, London, and a Consulting Partner in REMIT Consultants Ltd. A founding member of Surrey and South Bank Universities, Professor Reuben is the author or coauthor of more than 100 publications. The authors' previous collaborations include the two-volume Industrial Organic Chemicals in Perspective, Pharmaceutical Chemicals in Perspective, and The Pharmaceutical Industry-Chemistry and Concepts, an audio course.

Cohen and Bradford are business professors, the former at Babson College and the latter at Stanford, and both have extensive backgrounds in management consulting. Here, they have devised a number of scenarios to illustrate situations in which particular techniques of influencing co-workers can be utilized to effect a desired result. Very few real-world examples are employed, leaving the reader searching for some concrete applications of the techniques discussed. Consequently, the book reads more like an academic text on influence. Readers would be better served with Dale Carnegie's classic How To Win Friends and Influence People or Harvey MacKay's Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive ( LJ 4/15/88). Recommended for academic and large public libraries.

For over thirty years, Victor Bevine has worked as an actor, screenwriter, audio book narrator, director, and more. A graduate of Yale University, his acting credits include many prestigious roles onstage as well as roles in the film version of A Separate Peace and countless television shows. He has read over one hundred and eighty titles as an audiobook narrator; in 2010, he received an Audiophone Award for his narration of the Pulitzer Prize–winning book The Beak of the Finch. He has written several screenplays, including Certainty, which was chosen for two prestigious writers’ conferences and which served as the basis for his first novel. His thirty-minute short film Desert Cross, which he wrote and directed, won accolades at the Athens International Film Festival. Currently, he serves as CEO of the World Freerunning Parkour Federation (WFPF), of which he is co-founder. He resides in New York City.

Good info on how to be effective in team-based organizations

This book covers how to use the natural human laws of reciprocity with others in your organization to achieve maximum productivity. More importantly the book also promotes the attitude of looking on everyone in your organization as allies (people you like) and potential allies (people you don't). Highly recommended.

I liked this book. I used it for my class in college believe it or not. Make sure to get the kindle version it is updated and has more information. Turns out the kindle version was the one I needed for my class in the first place. Has great information that you will use in the work place and in real life can't go wrong with real world information.

A classic introduction with a focus on plant pathology.

Last month I began browsing my 1962 edition of Introductory Mycology. Lo and behold I read through the whole book over a weekend. This book was our bible for the Mycology 100 course in grad school. I was noticing how good the narrative and drawings were in this classic. The book is not a glitzy tome so common in textbooks today. Each class of fungi is dealt with separately and there are extensive references at the end of each chapter. Of course because of the date of my edition some of the references are dated. However, the basic science here is solid and presented in a pedagogical manner. The chapter on class Basidiomycetes deserves special mention. The basidium development narrative is just superb. If you have an interest in fungi and want to delve deeper into this important living group then get this book. It will serve you well for years to come just as it has done for me.

More intermediate than introductory Micology

This textbook is designed and geared towards individuals with already a basic understanding of fungi. Unlike the title, one should be acquinted with basic terminology so that the reading is more instructive and helpful. Once a basic understanding is established, this book can be a great aid when exploring the world of fungi either scientifically or for leisure purposes only. The figures are very useful and the book is well organized and easy to follow.

About the Author
About the author FRANCIS C. MOON is a professor at Cornell University in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He served as Director of this school for five years and was also Chairman of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. He is an Associate Editor of the journal, Chaos, and the author of Magneto-Solid Mechanics and a forthcoming book, Superconducting Levitation and Bearings. Dr. Moon received his PhD in theoretical and applied mechanics at Cornell University and taught for seven years at Princeton University before returning to Cornell. In addition to his many published papers in chaos, Dr. Moon has lectured at over 60 universities in North America, Europe, and Asia, and given numerous short courses in chaos and fractals to several corporations and government laboratories. His chaos experiments have also appeared on the PBS program, "Nova."
